The Wheaton College Male Athlete of the Year in 2001, Tyson was also named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Athlete of the Year in 1999. A six-time NEWMAC all-Conference athlete, Tyson also picked up seven NCAA all-America finishes (long jump and 4x100m). He was a two-time NCAA National Champion in 2000 winning the long jump during both indoor and outdoor seasons.
