Matt Cushing is not only the greatest Men's Soccer Coach in Wheaton history, but also one of the all-time greats in NCAA Division III annals. The former Lyon mentor ranks 50th on the NCAA's all-time list for victories with 328 and is 26th in career winning percentage with a .722 mark. Cushing posted a 328-113-43 career mark and led Wheaton to post-season play in all 23 seasons he was at the helm and recorded a winning record in every campaign. He registered double-digit wins in 21 of 23 seasons, including 15 or more 10 times and won nine or more games in every year. Cushing directed the Lyons to a school-record win total in 2001 with a 21-2 season. Under his watch the Lyons won eight NEWMAC Championships and earned 10 NCAA Tournament berths, including an appearance in the 2003 NCAA Championship Semifinal and a Quarterfinal stop in 2001. Cushing is one of the greatest coaches in NEWMAC history with an 83-24-11 mark in conference play in addition to his impressive league crown total. He was selected the conference Coach of the Year in both 1998 and 2001 and enjoyed four seasons with undefeated records in conference play. The Wheaton legend coached 14 All-Americans, eight NEWMAC Players of the Year and five league Rookies of the Year. In addition to his success as the Men's Soccer team's field general, he also patrolled the sidelines as the Men's Lacrosse team's head coach for three seasons from 1995-97 and boasted a 25-17 (.595) record.
