Christine Whelan was a driving force in Wheaton's quest for a national championship during its Final Four run in 1994, averaging a career-high 15.9 points, while shooting 49.3 (182-370) from the field and 77.8% (123-158) from the free throw line. She was named the NEW 8 Player of the Year as well as an ECAC All-Star. The forward became the first women's basketball player to earn All-America distinction when she was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-America Honorable Mention squad as a senior and is still the only women's basketball All-American in school history. Whelan ranks fifth on the school's career scoring list with 1,322 points and is eighth with 720 rebounds to go with 54 lifetime blocks to stand ninth all-time. The Rhode Island native is among the best shooters to play for the Lyons, owning a career field goal mark of .478 (506-1059) to place seventh at Wheaton and a success rate of .718 (268-373) at the free throw line to rank 10th for the Lyons.
