SMITHFIELD, R.I. — Senior Kristen DiBella (Boston, Mass.) placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's track & field team today at the Jaylin Rainford Invitational hosted at Bryant University's Track and Turf Complex in Smithfield, R.I. The meet was contested by student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II and III institutions.
DiBella posted a personal-record time of 1:06.58 for the Lyons. First year Adeline Takantjas (Belmont, N.H.) placed ninth in the race with a mark of 1:09.49.
Sophomore Reilly Hickey (Medford, Mass.) finished ninth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.69 and was 15th in the 200 meters with a personal-record clip of 27.63. Junior Natalie Shaw (Belchertown, Mass.) finished 13th in the 200 meters to lead Wheaton in the event with a time of 27.31 and junior Maya Thomas (Goffstown, N.H.) was steps behind the pack of Lyons with a time of 27.74 to finish 16th in the race. Shaw also turned in a time of 1:05.74 to finish 21st overall and seventh among NCAA Division III runners in the 400 meters.
Sophomore Chloe Vescio (Douglas, Mass.) clocked in at 18:37.95 to finish 15th overall and sixth among DIII runners in the 5000 meters with the eighth-fastest time in school history to lead Wheaton's distance runners, while classmate Abby Wozniak (Blackstone, Mass.) wasn't far behind at 18:54.23 to place 17th and eighth.
First year Brooke Xavier (Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia) led the Lyons in the 100 meters with a time of 14.06 to finish 17th overall and 11th among the Division III field.
Senior Abby Martin (Keene, N.H.) was 26th overall and 14th in her division to lead Wheaton in the 800 meters with a time of 2:37.79 and sophomore Maggie Cizmar (Plymouth, Mass.) placed 56th overall and 23rd among Division III competitors in the 1500 meters with a personal-record mark of 5:23.50.
Senior Anika Wagner (Elmore, Vt.) led the Lyons in the field events, placing fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 48.33 meters. She also finished 22nd in the discus throw with a distance of 28.00 meters. Sophomore Eva Garafono (Barrington, R.I.) topped Wheaton with a mark of 30.77 meters to finish 19th in the discus throw. In addition, Garafono placed 23rd in the hammer throw behind a distance of 36.29 meters. First year Kylee Murray (Old Town, Maine) made her collegiate outdoor debut by placing 15th in the javelin throw with a toss of 27.47 meters, while junior Annie Reagan (Scarborough, Maine) finished 18th with a mark of 22.28 meters. Murray registered a heave of 8.89 meters to finish 27th overall and 12th among DIII throwers in the shot put and Reagan placed 29th and 13th with a distance of 7.91 meters. Reagan also slotted in at 29th in the discus throw with a mark of 24.03 meters.
Wheaton returns to the track on Saturday, April 4 when it travels to Atlanta, Ga. to compete in the Emory Dooley Elite Meet.
