NORTON, Mass. — Senior Jaz Vanderhoof (Portland, Maine) placed first in the mile to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's track & field team today at the Wheaton Post-Season Qualifier at Beard Field House on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.
Vanderhoof turned in a time of 5:14.52. Sophomore Chloe Vescio (Douglas, Mass.) was sixth in the race with a personal-record mark of 5:27.23 and first year Ellie Gilman (Brunswick, Maine) was 10th with a time of 5:36.77.
The 4X200 relay placed second for the Lyons, backed by juniors Camile Connors (Woburn, Mass.) and Maya Thomas (Goffstown, N.H.) and first year Paige Edwards (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior Natalie Shaw (Belchertown, Mass.) with a season-best time of 1:47.24.
Wheaton senior Anika Wagner (Elmore, Vt.) finished second in the weight throw with a season-best toss of 15.91 meters to rank 56th in NCAA Division III, while sophomore Eva Garofano (Barrington, R.I.) placed seventh with a mark of 12.05 meters.
The Lyons field athletes continued to impress with first year Carly Satterfield (Bowdoinham, Maine) posting a personal-best height of 2.90 meters for the sixth-best mark in school history and a fifth-place finish in the pole vault. She combined that with a third-place effort in the shot put after a heave of 11.22 meters. Junior Annie Reagan (Scarborough, Maine) followed with a distance of 10.71 meters to finish sixth in the shot put, while first year Kylee Murray (Old Town, Maine) finished ninth with a distance of 9.91 meters in the event. Junior Lauren Hinckley (Niantic, Conn.) placed fifth in the triple jump on a season-best leap of 10.60 meters. First year Karina Contreras (Pawtucket, R.I.) registered a personal-record leap of 4.86 meters to finish fifth in the long jump and classmate Christina Lang (Coventry, R.I.) was 10th in the event with a mark of 4.66 meters.
First year Adeline Takantjas (Belmont, N.H.) finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-record time of 9.67, while sophomore Reilly Hickey (Medford, Mass.) was sixth in the race with a clip of 9.71. Senior Kristen DiBella (Boston, Mass.) turned in a personal-record time of 2:22.81 to place third in the 800 meters. Classmate Wendy Wooden (Sharon, Mass.) was top-six in two events, highlighted by a second-place showing in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 26.85 in addition to a clip of 8.03 to finish sixth in the 60 meters. Sophomore Abby Wozniak (Blackstone, Mass.) was outstanding with a personal-record effort of 10:50.78 to finish fifth in the 3000 meters for Wheaton.
The Lyons return to the track on Saturday, February 28 when they travel to The Track at New Balance in Boston, Mass. to compete in the New England DIII Indoor Regional Championship.
