BOSTON, Mass. — Senior Michaina Loriston (Boston, Mass.) placed second in the 60 meters and classmate Jaz Vanderhoof (Portland, Maine) broke the school record for the 5000 meters to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's track & field team today at the New England DIII Indoor Championship at The TRACK at New Balance in Boston, Mass.
Loriston's time of 7.60 is currently the 14th-fastest in the nation for NCAA Division III. Vanderhoof's mark of 17:44.53 earned her ninth place at the meet.
Senior Wendy Wooden (Sharon, Mass.) finished 20th in the 60-meter dash preliminaries, while sophomore Chloe Vescio (Douglas, Mass.) clocked in at 18:33.60 to place 18th in the 5000 meters and place herself sixth on the Lyons' all-time list for the 5000.
Senior Anika Wagner (Elmore, Vt.) finished second for Wheaton in the weight throw with a toss of 16.10 meters. Junior Anella Bolster (Marcellus, N.Y.) also performed well in the field with a leap of 5.32 meters for the eighth-best mark ever for the Lyons, while placing ninth in the meet. Senior Kristen DiBella (Boston, Mass.) continued to improve her time and did so with gusto, finishing 10th with a time of 2:19.80 for the ninth-fastest time in program history.
Wheaton's relays also performed well. Junior Jessie Dickson (Southbury, Conn.), joined classmate Maya Thomas (Goffstown, N.H.), DiBella and first year Adeline Takantjas (Belmont, N.H.) to combine for a time of 4:01.73 to finish 11th in the 4x400-meter relay. Takantjas was also part of the Lyons' 4x200-meter relay, combining with junior Camille Connors (Woburn, Mass.), senior Kate Wickenheisser (Oxford, Conn.) and sophomore Reilly Hickey (Medford, Mass.) to post a time of 1:46.09 to place 12th. Wheaton finished 16th in the 4000-meter distance medley relay behind sophomore Abby Wozniak (Blackstone, Mass.), Dickson, Vescio and first year Ellie Gilman (Brunswick, Maine) with a mark of 13:16.75.
First year Carly Satterfield (Bowdoinham, Maine) also contributed with a heave of 10.93 meters to finish 18th in the shot put for the Lyons.
Wheaton competes again on Saturday, March 7 when it heads to Medford, Mass. for the Tufts Final Qualifier at Tufts University.
