NORTON, Mass. — Senior Michaina Loriston (Boston, Mass.) won the 60-meter dash and posted the 11th-fastest time in Division III to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's track & field team to a third-place showing at the Lyon Invitational hosted by the Lyons at Beard Field House on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.
The Lyons scored 89.5 points to finish just behind Colby College's count of 92 points, while United States Coast Guard Academy topped the field with 117.5 points.
Loriston posted a time of 7.68 in the 60-meter prelims, before placing first in the finals with a mark of 7.76.
She wasn't the only winner on the night for Wheaton. Senior Anika Wagner (Elmore, Vt.) dominated the weight throw with a mark of 15.60 meters and first year Carly Satterfield (Bowdoinham, Maine) recorded a heave of 10.45 meters to claim the top spot in the shot put. Satterfield also added a runner-up effort in the pole vault with a height of 2.55 meters.
The Lyons shined in the 5000 meters, placing second and third in the race. Sophomore Chloe Vescio (Douglas, Mass.) turned in the sixth-fastest time in school history at 18:32.55 to finish second, while senior Jaz Vanderhoof (Portland, Maine) was right behind her at 18:35.63 to place third. Their times were good for 80th and 81st in Division III, respectively.
Wheaton senior Kristen DiBella (Boston, Mass.) recorded a personal-record time of 2:24.63 to finish third in the 800 meters with 99th-best time in Division III, while sophomore Reilly Hickey (Medford, Mass.) turned in a pair of top-five efforts on the night. She placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-record mark of 9.83, before going back to the long jump to finish fifth with a leap of 4.79 meters. Senior Kate Wickenheisser (Oxford, Conn.) also registered a personal-best clip in the 60-hurdles with a time of 10.13 to finish eighth.
Junior Maya Thomas (Goffstown, N.H.) finished fifth in the 200 meters to nip classmate Camille Connors (Woburn, Mass.) by a hundredth of a second with a time of 27.67 to Connor's 27.68 showing. Junior Jessie Dickson (Southbury, Conn.) placed fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.52 for the Lyons and first year Paige Edwards (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was eighth in the race with a time of 1:05.63.
Sophomore Abby Wozniak (Blackstone, Mass.) and senior Abby Martin (Keene, N.H.) both established personal-bests in the mile for Wheaton. Wozniak crossed the line at 5:33.83 to place eighth, while Martin was 14th with a mark of 5:53.49.
Junior Anella Bolster (Marcellus, N.Y.) placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 4.92 meters for the Lyons, while first year Adeline Takantjas (Belmont, N.H.) was third in the triple jump with a leap of 10.49 meters.
Wharton junior Annie Reagan (Scarborough, Maine) was right behind Satterfield in the shot put with a toss of 10.32 meters to finish second and first year Kylee Murray (Old Town, Maine) was sixth with a mark of 9.66 in the event.
The Lyons placed fifth in the 4X200-meter relay behind Edwards, Bolster, first year
Brooke Xavier (Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia) and junior
Natalie Shaw (Belchertown, Mass.) with a time of 1:53.66. Wheaton's mixed relay finished second behind Dickson, first year
Josy Wright (Sharon, Mass.), Thomas and sophomore
Aidan Greenleaf (Topsham, Maine), combining on a time of 3:46.26.
