WALTHAM, Mass. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's track & field team posted three first place individual efforts and finished third as a team today at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational hosted by Brandeis University at Gosman Sports and Convocation Center in Waltham, Mass.
The Lyons scored 87 points, while Colby College tallied 101.5 points to top the field ahead of Brandeis' total of 92 points.
Senior Anika Wagner (Elmore, Vt.) led the Wheaton throwers with a first-place effort in the weight throw with a distance of 15.87 meters. Senior sprinter Michaina Loriston (Boston, Mass.) won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.73, while first year Adeline Takantjas (Belmont, N.H.) was outstanding in her collegiate debut, recording a winning mark of 10.67 meters in the triple jump. Takantjas was part of the Lyons' third-place entry in the 4X400-meter relay with senior Kate Wickenheisser (Oxford, Conn.), junior Camille Connors (Woburn, Mass.) and junior Maya Thomas (Goffstown, N.H.) to combine on a time of 4:11.61.
Senior Wendy Wooden (Sharon, Mass.) gave Wheaton two of the top three finishers in the 60-meter dash, placing third with a time of 7.98. The Lyons saw three runners place among the top eight in the 60-meter hurdles, led by Takantjas with a fourth-place showing on a time of 9.79 ahead of sophomore Reilly Hickey's (Medford, Mass.) fifth-place effort of 9.87. Wickenheisser registered a personal-record mark of 10.22 to finish eighth in the event. Junior Anella Bolster (Marcellus, N.Y.) finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 4.86 meters, while Hickey was eighth with a mark of 4.57 meters.
Wheaton senior Kristen DiBella (Boston, Mass.) placed fourth with a time of 1:21.99 in the 500 meters and classmate Jaz Vanderhoof (Portland, Maine) was fourth in the 3000 meters with a mark of 10:34.75. Sophomore Abby Wozniak (Blackstone, Mass.) also placed in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:51.07 in the seven spot. Sophomore Chloe Vescio (Douglas, Mass.) was eighth in the race with a personal-record time of 10:52.95.
First year Caeli Wagner (Hingham, Mass.) made her collegiate debut with a time of 6:10.71 to finish seventh in the mile for the Lyons, while classmate Sophia Woodcock (Warrington, Pa.) was steps behind at 6:13.39 to finish eighth. Wheaton rookie Paige Edwards (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished eighth in her first collegiate race with a mark of 45.50 in the 300 meters and junior Natalie Shaw (Belchertown, Mass.) placed ninth in the event with a personal-record mark of 46.27.
The Lyons placed three among the eight best in the shot put with junior transfer Annie Reagan (Scarborough, Maine) making her Wheaton debut by placing third with a heave of 10.46 meters. First year Carly Satterfield (Bowdoinham, Maine) finished sixth with a mark of 9.99 meters in the event, while first year Kylee Murray (Old Town, Maine) was ninth with a distance of 9.44 meters. Satterfield also made her mark in the pole vault with a height of 2.70 meters to place eighth with the 10-best effort in school history. Sophomore Eva Garofano (Barrington, R.I.) also fared well for the Lyons' field athletes with a toss of 11.95 meters to finish sixth in the weight throw.
Wheaton returns to action on Friday, January 23 when it hosts the Lyon Invitational at Beard Field House at 5:00 p.m.
