Platas Elevated to Head Men's Tennis Coach

NORTON, Mass. – Luis Platas Davila Galindo has been elevated to Head Coach for the Men's Tennis program at Wheaton College (Mass.), it was announced by Interim Director of Athletics, Lisa Yenush.

In conjunction with the announcement, Dan Munsey will become the Director of Tennis for Wheaton and also continue to maintain his role as Head Coach for the school's women's program. 

Platas Davila Galindo earns the promotion to the head role after serving as an Assistant Coach for both the men's and women's programs last season. In his first year with the Lyons, both the men's and women's teams secured a playoff spot in the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. It marked the first time since 2022 that both programs advanced to the postseason in the same year. In addition, four players from the men's team and five from the women's squad were all named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete Team.

Prior to his arrival in Norton in August of 2024, Platas Davila Galindo served as an Assistant Coach for his alma mater, Kenyon College, on both the men's and women's teams. He was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Women's Tennis Assistant Coach of the Year after helping the Owls post a 15-7 record, including a perfect 6-0 league mark. Platas Davila Galindo helped Kenyon capture the North Coast Athletic Conference crown and advance to the second round of the NCAA Championship Tournament in 2024, while achieving a No. 22 national ranking. In addition, the Kenyon grad was on the sidelines coaching some of his former teammates on the men's team to a 14-8 mark, including 6-1 in NCAC matches, and helped guide the No. 24 Owls to a date in the NCAC Championship match.

While instructing players as a Tennis Professional, Platas Davila Galindo also honed his coaching skills at the Bill Adams International Tennis Academy. 

As a player, Platas Davila Galindo burst onto the scene at Kenyon, earning ITA Central Region and NCAC Rookie of the Year honors. He enjoyed an outstanding career with the Owls and was recently named to the NCAC All-Decade Team after being named All-Conference three times in singles play, including a pair of First Team nods, and was also a two-time All-Conference honoree in doubles play, snagging First Team recognition in 2021. He concluded his career with 88 combined victories and played most of his matches at the top spot in singles play, posting a 41-29 record in addition to putting together a 47-27 doubles effort. During his time in Gambier, Ohio, Platas Davila Galindo helped Kenyon compile a 37-25 record, including 11-4 in conference play, while being nationally-ranked in all four seasons.

Prior to his arrival to the United States, Platas Davila Galindo was ranked as high as fourth in his native Mexico, before settling in as a Floridian. 

He graduated from Kenyon in 2023 with a degree in Psychology.
