NEW LONDON, Conn. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's track & field's 4X100-meter relay squad placed second at the NEW England Division III Championship hosted by United States Coast Guard Academy today at Nitchman Field in New London, Conn.
The Lyons tallied 13 points as a team to place 21st, while Tufts University took the crown with a score of 94 points.
Wheaton's 4X100 relay consisting of senior Emily Zielinski (Orange, Conn.), junior Wendy Wooden (Sharon, Mass.), sophomore Camille Connors (Woburn, Mass.) and junior Michaina Loriston (Boston, Mass.) clocked in with a season-best time of 47.04 for the 22nd-fastest time in NCAA Division III and the eighth-fastest mark in school history.
The Lyons also placed sixth in the 4X400-meter relay with a season-best clip of 4:02.69 behind sophomore Jessie Dickson (Southbury, Conn.), first year Mimi Batista (Peabody, Mass.), senior Eliza Speidel (Billerica, Mass.) and sophomore Maya Thomas (Goffstown, N.H.).
Wheaton's third relay entry of the day placed 19th in the 4X800-meter race. Juniors Kristen DiBella (Boston, Mass.), Jaz Vanderhoof (Portland, Maine) and Abby Martin (Keene, N.H.) joined senior Marguerite Bartlett (Centerbrook, Conn.) to turn in a time of 10:20.07.
Junior Anika Wagner (Elmore, Vt.) registered a toss of 44.62 meters to place seventh in the hammer throw to lead the Lyons' field athletes.
Wheaton junior Abbie Cramer (Farmington, Maine) totaled 3364 points to finish 10th in the heptathlon with the seventh-best score in program history. Cramer placed second in the javelin throw with a mark of 31.28 meters, finished eighth in the 200 meters (28.21), the 800 meters (2:46.70) and the shot put (8.93 meters) in addition to placing 10th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.62, 12th in the high jump with a height of 1.28 meters and 13th in the long jump with a leap of 4.28 meters.
Sophomore Lauren Hinckley (Niantic, Conn.) finished 19th with a distance of 10.82 meters in the triple jump for the Lyons.
Wheaton will be in action again when it competes on May 9 at the Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza at Williams College in Willamstown, Mass.
