CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior Michaina Loriston (Boston, Mass.) won the 100 meters to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's track & field team today at the Sean Collier Invitational hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the Morrison Track at Steinbrenner Stadium in Cambridge, Mass.
Loriston's time of 11.88 is the third-fastest in school history and ranks her 14th in NCAA Division III in the event for the Lyons. Classmate Kate Wickenheisser (Oxford, Conn.) finished 11th in the race with a mark of 13.01.
Wheaton junior Jaz Vanderhoof (Portland, Maine) placed second in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:57.24, while first year Chloe Vescio (Douglas, Mass.) was fifth with a time of 19:47.59.
The Lyons' 4X100 meter relay squad clocked in at 49.20 to finish second in the event behind sophomore Camille Connors (Woburn, Mass.), first year Inez Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.), senior Emily Zielinski (Orange, Conn.) and Loriston.
Sophomore Lauren Hinckley (Niantic, Conn.) led Wheaton's field athletes with a leap of 10.47 to place sixth in the triple jump to go with a 13th-place effort on a personal-record mark of 4.79 meters in the long jump. Sophomore Anella Bolster (Marcellus, N.Y.) turned in a mark of 5.07 meters to finish eighth in the long jump for the Lyons.
Junior Kristen DiBella (Boston, Mass.) placed eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.50 for the Lyons, while Connors was eighth in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 26.07. Sophomore Jessie Dickson (Southbury, Conn.) clocked in at 1:01.35 to finish eighth in the 400 meters and classmate Maya Thomas (Goffstown, N.H.) was 11th in the race with a time of 1:01.83.
Junior Anika Wagner (Elmore, Vt.) recorded a toss of 44.14 meters to finish 10th in the hammer throw to lead Wheaton. She also topped the Lyons in the discus throw with a distance of 27.84 meters to finish 19th. First year Maezy Gleason (Scarborough, Maine) finished 21st in the discus with a mark of 26.85. Gleason was the team's top finisher in the shot put, placing 12th with a heave of 10.36 meters.
First year Reilly Hickey (Medford, Mass.) registered a personal-record time of 17.67 to lead the Lyons in the 100-meter hurdles with a 17th-place finish. Junior Abbie Cramer (Farmington, Maine) finished 18th to lead Wheaton in the javelin throw with a distance of 25.25 meters. She also finished 20th in the 100-meter hurdles at 18.10.
Senior Marguerite Bartlett (Centerbrook, Conn.) placed 24th with a personal-record time of 2:34.09 to top the Lyons in the 800 meters, while first year Abby Wozniak (Blackstone, Mass.) posted a personal-record time of 5:23.03 to finish 30th in the event for Wheaton.
The Lyons return to the track on Friday, April 25 when they travel to South Hadley, Mass. to compete in the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship, hosted by Mount Holyoke College.
