SMITHFIELD, R.I. — Sophomore Lauren Hinckley (Niantic, Conn.) won the triple jump to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's track & field team today at the Black & Gold Invitational hosted by Bryant University at the Track and Turf Complex in Smithfield, R.I.
Hinckley recorded a personal-record leap of 10.63 meters for the Lyons in the meet that featured competitors from NCAA Division I, II and III schools.
Wheaton's 4X100-meter relay placed second with a time of 48.38 behind senior Emily Zielinski (Orange, Conn.), junior Wendy Wooden (Sharon, Mass.), sophomore Camille Connors (Woburn, Mass.) and junior Michaina Loriston (Boston, Mass.).
First year Inez Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) led the Lyons with an eighth-place effort in the 200 meters with a mark of 12.85, while Zielinski posted a personal-record time of 12.90 to finish ninth. Junior Kristen DiBella (Boston, Mass.) finished eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.52, while classmate Kate Wickenheisser (Oxford, Conn.) was 14th at 1:18.24.
DiBella was part of Wheaton's 4X400-meter relay along with sophomores Jessie Dickson (Southbury, Conn.) and Maya Thomas (Goffstown, N.H.) and senior Eliza Speidel (Billerica, Mass.), which posted a time of 4:16.95 to finish seventh.
Junior Anika Wagner (Elmore, Vt.) led the Lyons' throwers, placing 12th in the shot put with a mark of 9.72 meters, while first year Maezy Gleason (Scarborough, Maine) recorded a heave of 9.38 meters to finish 15th. Senior Madison King (Wethersfield, Conn.) was 18th with a distance of 8.05 meters.
Senior Morgan Zakrzewski (Taunton, Mass.) finished 15th in the 400 meters to lead Wheaton in the 400 meters with a clip of 1:03.26, while Connors placed 18th in the 200 meters with a time of 27.08. Junior Abbie Cramer (Farmington, Maine) was the top finisher for the Lyons in the javelin with a throw of 28.94 to finish 15th and the 100-meter hurdles with a mark of 18.32 to place 22nd.
Sophomore Anella Bolster (Marcellus, N.Y.) placed 18th in the long jump for Wheaton with a leap of 4.64 meters. Senior Marguerite Bartlett (Centerbrook, Conn.) and first year Abby Wozniak (Blackstone, Mass.) each recorded personal-record times as the Lyons' top finishers in their respective events. Bartlett placed 39th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:37.22 and Wozniak recorded a mark of 5:34 in the 1500 meters to finish 57th.
Wheaton returns to the track on Friday, April 4 when it travels to Weston, Mass. to compete in the Regis Spring Classic at 10:00 a.m.
