WALTHAM, Mass. — Junior Anika Wagner (Elmore, Vt.) led the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's track & field team with a pair of top-five finishes, including a win in the weight throw at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational hosted by Brandeis University at Red Auerbach Arena in Waltham, Mass.
The Lyons placed eighth as a team with 22 points, while Saint Anselm University topped the 10-team field with 116 points.
Wagner's toss of 15.60 meters in the weight throw ranks as the third-best mark in school history and was good for first place for the day and the 20th-best figure in NCAA Division III this season. She also finished fifth in the shot put with a heave of 10.67 meters.
First year Maezy Gleason (Scarborough, Maine) enjoyed a quality collegiate debut, finishing 10th in the shot put with a toss of 9.76 meters, while placing 19th with a personal-record mark of 7.77 meters in the weight throw.
Junior Jaz Vanderhoof (Portland, Maine) led Wheaton's track competitors with a third-place time of 10:52.14 to currently rank 83rd in the nation. First year Chloe Vescio (Douglas, Mass.) clocked in with a personal-best time of 11:07.41 to finish seventh in her first collegiate indoor race.
Sophomore Natalie Sicard (Nottingham, N.H.) turned in a personal-record time of 3:32.61 to finish 13th in the 1000 meters for the Lyons with first year Abby Wozniak (Blackstone, Mass.) steps behind her at 3:34.58 to place 14th with a personal-best mark of her own.
Wheaton first year Niyati Hotha (South Brunswick, N.J.) made her collegiate track debut with a personal-record time of 6:33.22 to place 20th in the mile and sophomore Annabelle Sanders (Miami, Fla.) finished 21st in the race with a clip of 6:48.61.
The Lyons return to action on Saturday, January 25 when they host the Lyon Invitational at Beard Field House in Norton, Mass. at 11:00 a.m.
