WESTWOOD, Mass. -- Wheaton College (Mass.) men's lacrosse player Charlie Racine (Oradell, N.J.) was named the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Face-Off Specialist of the Week for the week of February 19-25, it was announced today by the NEWMAC.
In the Lyons' only match of the week, the junior won 13 of 23 face-offs for a 56.5% success rate, while picking up a career-high 10 ground balls. The midfielder added a pair of goals and caused a turnover as well at Gordon College on February 24.
For the season, the River Dell High School product currently ranks third among NEWMAC leaders with 6.00 ground balls per game to go with a 45.7% (16-35) face-off percentage. Racine is tied for the team lead with four goals and ranks second on the squad with five points, including an assist. He also has a pair of caused turnovers on the year.
The Biology major has started 23 of 24 career contests, while racking up 53 points on 40 goals and 13 assists to go with 129 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers. Racine has produced a 37.6% face-off figure on the X during his time at Wheaton and was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association National Division III Team of the Week last season.
The Lyons are currently 1-1 on the season and return to action on Thursday, February 29 at 7:00 p.m. when they host Anna Maria College at Nordin Field.
