SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. — Wheaton College (Mass.) men's lacrosse player Mike McLaughlin (Stoughton, Mass.) was selected to play in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Senior All-Star Game, it was announced by the NEILA.
The game is composed of NCAA Division I, II and III players and will be played Friday, May 30 at 7:00 PM at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on the campus of Providence College in Providence, R.I.
All players and coaches were nominated by the head coaches within the NEILA. Players were then ranked and selected by a committee, awarding seniors from all three NCAA Divisions who played their college career in the New England region. This all-star game is the only one of its kind, being a regional all-star game which includes players from Divisions I, II, and III.
"This is a great opportunity to highlight the college careers of these young men. For many, it is one last time for them to play an organized game against such high competition. It is also a chance to compete with players you may have battled against throughout your college career," said Tim Murphy, head coach of Johnson & Wales, president of NEILA and coordinator of the East-West All-Star team selection.
McLaughlin's selection marks the fourth straight year that a Lyon has been chosen to play in the All-Star contest.
The senior started three of 15 games and ranked second on the team with 25 goals, while standing third with 39 points, 14 assists and 12 caused turnovers. The midfielder was extremely consistent for the Lyons, notching at least one point in every match, while collecting multiple points in 11 of 15 games. McLaughlin tallied a season-high of seven points on three goals and four assists vs. Massachusetts Maritime Academy on April 15.
The Stoughton High School graduate finished his tenure at Wheaton with 77 goals and 56 assists for 133 points in 63 matches to go with 86 ground balls and 29 caused turnovers.
The Lyons finished the season with a 7-8 record, including a 1-6 mark in the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference.
