Tracy, Na Lead Men's Tennis Over Emerson, 7-2

NORTON, Mass. -- Senior Ian Tracy (San Jose, Costa Rica) and junior Ethan Na (Weatogue, Conn.) were both double-winners to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's tennis team over visiting Emerson College, 7-2, today in a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference match at Beard Field House on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass. The Lyons improve to 3-8 overall and 1-1 in league play, while the Lions fall to 3-10 and 0-1.

Wheaton swept doubles play before taking four of six singles matches to win the dual match.

Tracy combined with junior Josh Anshuetz (West Bloomfield, Mich.) at number one doubles to earn an 8-2 win over Emerson junior Bass Lin (Shanghai, China) and first year Ryu Watanabe (Osaka, Japan) and improve their doubles mark to 4-1 on the season. Na teamed with sophomore Elijah Hanlon (Brandford, Conn.) for an 8-3 decision at third doubles over junior Cooper Sherman (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and first year Daniel Kennedy (Brookline, N.H.) for the Lions. Senior Albert Ortega Campos (Malaga, Spain) and junior Jack Luyrink (Paxton, Mass.) paired for an 8-7 win at second doubles for the Lyons, winning the tie-breaker, 10-8, over Emerson senior Maximo Lawlor (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) and first year Pete Sevikul (Bangkok, Thailand).

Tracy secured the win for Wheaton with the fifth point of the match after earning a 6-3, 6-0 victory at first singles over Lin to up his singles record to 7-4 on the year. Na also won in straight sets for the Lyons with a 6-3, 6-1 effort over Sevikul at number four singles. 

First year Karl von Weissenbeck (Winchester, Mass.) dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth singles for Wheaton, while classmate Daniel Bor (Seattle, Wash.) did not drop a game in the opening set as well, before taking the second frame, 6-3, for the triumph over Sherman at sixth singles for the Lyons. 

Watanabe grinded out a three-set win over Wheaton's Ortega Campos at number three singles, taking the final two sets, 6-2 and 10-8, after Ortega Campos won the first frame, 6-2. Lawlor outlasted Anshuetz in the first set at second singles, 7-6 (6), and led the second set, 1-0, before Anshuetz retired with an injury.

The Lyons return to the courts on Saturday, April 9 when they host United States Coast Guard Academy at 2:00 p.m., while the Lions head to Springfield, Mass. on April 8 to take on Springfield College at 3:00 p.m.
