Brady also reached base via a walk for the Lyons, while sophomore Will Haskell (Natick, Mass.) was 2-3 on the day. Junior third baseman Nick Croteau (Cumberland, R.I.) doubled, walked and scored a run in four plate appearances for Wheaton. Reily (2-1) wins his second decision of the week after scattering six hits and giving up two walks in addition to a pair of strikeouts.
Senior right fielder Chase Stafford (Somerset, Mass), junior infielder Dj Perron (Swansea, Mass.) and sophomore first baseman Matt Tempone (Smithtown, N.Y.) all rapped out a pair of hits for UMass Dartmouth. The Lyons came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning with sophomore center fielder AJ Guindon (Coventry, R.I.) leading off with a single, followed by a double to right field from Croteau to put both runners in scoring position. Senior right fielder Jake Studley (Barrington, R.I.) flied out to right field to plate Guindon with the game's first run on a sacrifice fly.
The Corsairs looked primed to score their first run of the game in the top of the fourth when Perron laced a lead-off single up the middle and Bryant followed with a single to right field with no outs. Reily bared down for Wheaton, striking out the next hitter and getting a pair of ground outs to get out of the jam.
Wheaton added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth when Croteau drew a walk and senior catcher Zach DeMattio (North Attleoboro, Mass.) later worked a two-out bases on balls. Brady delivered with a double to the right-center gap to bring both runs into score to give the Lyons a 3-0 margin.
Wheaton was working on its second shutout in as many days when Tempone had other ideas, crushing a pitch over the right field fence to open the ninth and cut the deficit to 3-1 for UMass Dartmouth. It was the last run of the day for the visitors as the Lyons held on for the victory.
