GAME ONE: No. 11 Wheaton 2 - MIT 19

THE RUNDOWN:
- The Wheaton College baseball team returned to its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) series against MIT with the Engineers earning a 19-2 win.
- Wheaton, who managed just six hits, was led by a 2-for-4 performance from Jacob Studley and Jared Sharkey.
- First-year Griffin Young got the start for Wheaton, picking up his first loss of the season after giving up just three runs on six hits in six innings of action.
- The Engineers were led by a 4-for-6 performance from Alec Kushner and Thomas Allison, while Matt Johnston finished 3-for-5 with a walk.
- Zack Kopstein was credited with his third win of the season after 6.1 innings, giving up just two runs on five hits.
- The Engineers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third, starting with an RBI single to second from Johnston. The final run of the inning came in on a Wheaton error that allowed Jared Schwait to score.
- Wheaton finally found an answer in the top of the sixth with Nick Raposo knocking in Stephen Quigley on a sacrifice fly to left. Sharkey followed with a single to center that sent Brody Ashley racing in from second.
- MIT took the lead back for good in the bottom half of the inning. Leading 3-2, the Engineers plated three runs with an RBI single to right from Tony Rice, which was followed by a two-run home run from Allison.
- The Engineers ran up the score in the eighth, plating 13 runs on just five hits, and two Lyon errors, making it a 19-2 contest.

THE RUNDOWN:
- Wheaton returns to action for the final game, which saw the Lyons earn a 6-0 win and clinch their 18th NEWMAC Regular Championship. With the win, Wheaton will be the No. 1 seed heading into the NEWMAC Tournament which is scheduled to begin next week. Wheaton will take on the winner of the No. 5 Springfield/No. 4 MIT game on Friday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m. at Sidell Stadium.
- Zach Demattio ended the contest 2-for-5 with four RBI, while Willy Boyd finished 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.
- John Mikosz earned his sixth win of the season after 8.1 solid innings that saw the sophomore surrender just three hits while striking out nine.
- Schwait, Andrew Krause, and Allison each collected a hit in the loss. Travis Hank earned the loss after giving up four runs in the top of the first.
- With one out, Studley singled up the middle before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Raposo followed with a walk before a walk to Sharkey loaded the bases. With the bases juiced, Demattio hit his first career grand slam over the fence in left.
- Wheaton ended the scoring in the second inning, plating two runs on three hits and an Engineer error. A double down the left field line scored Boyd who led off the inning with a bunt single. Sharkey doubled to right a few batters later, allowing Ashley to score from third.
