Box Score MANSFIELD, Conn. - The Wheaton College baseball team concluded the 2017 regular season Wednesday night with a 5-3 loss at Eastern Connecticut State.
Sophomore Tommy Larason earned the loss after starting the contest for the Lyons. First-year Trevor Marques also took the mound for Wheaton, pitching five complete innings, striking out a season-high eight batters, while giving up just one hit.
The Warriors posted all five of their runs through four complete innings. Wheaton finally broke through with two runs in the top of the fifth with a two-run home run from sophomore Tyler Walsh. The home run is the fourth of the season from the Lyon first baseman and the sixth of his career.
Wheaton pulled within two runs in the seventh. The run came on junior Chris Ruocco's first career triple that knocked in sophomore Willy Boyd. Boyd entered the game as a pinch runner for Ty Calabro, who reached after being hit by a pitch while pinch hitting for Josh Trybuch.
Wheaton ends the regular season 23-14 overall and 12-5 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). The Lyons finished conference play with a share of the NEWMAC regular season title.
