Lyons fall to 4-2 on the year
WALTHAM, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's tennis team fell to No. 35 nationally ranked Brandeis University by a 6-0 score in non-conference action on Friday evening as the Judges and Lyons played to decision.
Senior captain Lawrence Chan (Lincoln, R.I./Wheeler School) and junior David Gassen (Dusseldorf, Germany/Saddlebrook Prep) kept things close at No. 1 doubles but eventually fell to the pairing of sophomore Brian Granoff (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) and junior Danny Lubarsky (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken School) by an 8-4 score.
Brandeis sophomores Michael Arguello (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) and Jeff Cherkin (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) were 8-2 winners at No. 2, while senior Alec Siegel (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) and sophomore Ryan Bunis (Groton, Mass./Groton Dunstable) did not drop a game at the No. 3 position for the Judges.
In singles play, Granoff defeated Gassen at No. 1 by a 6-4, 6-0 score and Arguello turned away White at the No. 2 position, 6-1, 6-4. Bunis also picked up a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 over Chan.
Wheaton (4-2) travels to Clark University on Wednesday, April 1 to take on the Cougars in its conference season opener at 4 p.m. Brandeis (4-6) is back in action tomorrow afternoon at No. 26 Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, at 3 p.m.
