CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The second-seeded Wheaton College men's tennis team saw its season close following a 5-1 loss to third seed United States Coast Guard Academy during Saturday's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament semifinal round at Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) duPont Tennis Courts.

Wheaton, which put together a 10-match winning streak following a slow start to the season, posted an 11-6 record.  Now 11-9, Coast Guard advances to tomorrow's championship match against top seed MIT.

The Lyons dropped all three doubles matches, with sophomore Dennis Scarpa (Cheshire, Conn./Xavier) and freshman Ned Terrace (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) and notched a 9-7 setback at three after holding a 7-4 lead.

Senior Brian Krantz (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran) and junior Neall Oliver (Portland, Maine/Deering) lost 8-3 at one, as did senior Harry Altman (Riverdale, N.Y./The Dwight School) and freshman Dan Sharon (Santa Monica, Calif./Brentwood School) at two.

Terrace earned Wheaton's lone point in singles action, posting a 6-1, 6-3 triumph in the sixth position.  Sharon and Scarpa dropped straight-set decisions in the third and fifth spots, respectively.  Oliver turned in a 6-2 win during his first set at one but didn't finish, while Krantz and Altman suffered a pair of 7-5 setbacks in their opening sets at two and four, respectively.
