CAMBRIDGE, MA- The Wheaton College men's tennis team saw its six-match winning streak come to an end Wednesday afternoon at nationally-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as the Lyons fell to the Engineers by a 9-0 count in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on the duPont Tennis Courts.

Wheaton fell to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in league play, while MIT, which is ranked 27th nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), improved to 8-1 and 2-0.  The Engineers have won all 11 NEWMAC regular season and tournament titles.

Senior Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) and sophomore Neall Oliver (Portland, ME/Deering) put up a good fight in the top doubles spot before falling 9-8 in a tiebreaker.

Juniors Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) and Brian Krantz (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) also lost a tight match, as the tandem fell 8-6 in the third slot, while senior James Little (Mount Desert, ME/Mount Desert Island) and junior Gregory Poulin (Boxboro, MA/Home Schooled) dropped an 8-5 decision at number two.

In singles play, Krantz posted a 6-3 victory for an opening-set win in the fifth position before losing 6-0 in the middle set and 10-8 in the super tiebreaker.  Oliver succumbed to his opponent at number one by a 6-4, 6-4 count, while Hudgins fell 6-3, 6-4 in the third spot.  Poulin lost 7-5 in the first set before suffering a straight-set setback.

Wheaton remains on the road on Friday for a non-conference match at Union College.  Match time in Schenectady, New York, is slated for 3:30 p.m.
