MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Wheaton College (Mass.) men's tennis team competed on the opening day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championship at host Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt. today.

The Lyon tandem of senior Jaime Gálligo (Madrid, Spain) and sophomore Landon Wyshner (Winston-Salem, N.C.) was defeated in the round of 64 by the Clark University duo of graduate student Edward Shepherd-Johnson (Takoma Park, Md.), 8-2, in doubles play.

Wyshner fell in singles play to top-seeded Amherst College senior Andreas Sillaste (Oulu, Finland), 6-0, 6-2, in the round of 64 of the A Singles Draw.

Galligo was taken in the A Draw as well, succumbing to senior Springfield College Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), 6-2, 6-3.

First year Luis Adrian Gomez Tinoco (Mexico City, Mexico) was upended in the round of 64 of the B Draw by Brandeis University junior Benjamin Kotzen (Austin, Texas), 8-0.

Wheaton returns to action on Friday, October 2 when it heads to Dudley, Mass. to take on Nichols College at 3:00 p.m.
