NORTON, Mass. — Wheaton College (Mass.) women's fencer Norah Vaughan (Hope Hull, Ala.) was named All-America Second Team by the United States Fencing Coaches Association, it was announced by the organization.
Vaughan becomes the first-ever All-American in school history for women's fencing.
The sophomore posted a remarkable 67-29 record for a stunning .698 winning percentage and qualified for the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on March 8.
A Business & Management and Visual Art major, Vaughan posted winning records in 21 of 29 matches for the Lyons, including 13 matches where she did not lose a bout. The Evangel Christian School product put together three winning streaks of five or more bouts during the season, including a season-long string of nine straight victories and lost consecutive bouts just three times during the campaign. The caliber of opponent didn't deter Vaughan's success with a 34-19 record against NCAA Division I opponents. The Alabama native advanced to the second round of the NCAA Regional Championship and finished the competition by placing 26th for the highest regional finish in school history.
For her career, Vaughan is Wheaton's all-time wins leader with a 134-60 (.691) record. She earned All-Region status as a first year during the Lyons' inaugural season last year.
Wheaton finished the year with a 0-29 dual match record.
