ATLANTA, Ga. — Senior Nick Lacroix (Bedford, N.H.) and first year Josy Wright (Sharon, Mass.) both placed second in the 3000-meter steeple and the 200 meters, respectively, to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track and field team at the Emory Dooley Elite Meet at host Emory University's Woodruff PE Center Stadium in Atlanta, Ga.
Lacroix's time of 9:48.91 in the 3000-meter steeple is the second-fastest in the event in school history, while Wright's mark of 21.44 in the 200 meters also places him second all-time in program history. Classmate Tyler Lamonde (Swansea, Mass.) finished 13th in the 200 meters with a time of 22.67, while senior GJ Mualis (Taunton, Mass.) clocked in at 23.61 to place 31st. Junior Kevin Smith (Norfolk, Mass.) placed 12th in the long jump with a leap of 6.40 meters for the 10-best mark in school history. Mualis recorded a leap of 5.75 to finish 20th. Smith finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.74. Sophomore Gavin Landry (Sebago, Maine) finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and was 13th in the 400-meter hurdles as well.Sophomore Joshua Wright (Gorham, Maine) turned in a time of 17.16 to finish 13th in the 110-meter hurdles and placed 15th in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 1:00.05.
The Lyons' 4X100-meter relay topped the field with a time of 41.45, which ranks as the sixth-fasted time in program history. Smith, Lamonde, sophomore Aidan Greenleaf (Topsham, Maine) and Wright composed the unit.
First year Nolan Bushnell (Rochester, Mass.) finished 12th in the 800 meters for Wheaton with the seventh-fastest time in school history at 1:57.7 for the race, while sophomore Harrison Page (South Berwick, Maine) finished 13th in the 400 meters with a time of 49.94, which is the 10th-fastest in school annals. Junior Cam Cross (Newport, R.I.) placed fourth in the javelin throw with a toss of 49.60 meters to lead the Lyons' field athletes. Senior Kai Hillier (Hinesburg, Vt.) finished third with a time of 4:00.55 in the 1500 meters.
The Lyons return to the oval on Friday, April 10 when they compete in the two-day Tufts Elite Distance Invitational.
