NORTON, Mass. – Junior Renée Goldfinger (Hoboken, N.J.) placed first in the A Figures and the Duet to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) artistic swimming team to its 11th straight East Regional Championship today at Balfour Natatorium on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.
The Lyons tallied exactly 100 points, while Boston University Club scored 56.5 points. Wheaton placed first in the A, B, C and D Figures as well as the free solo, the duet, the trio, the team, the men's solo and the mixed duet to dominate the title meet.
Goldfinger scored 73.5339 points to top the field in the A Figures, while first year Eldar Blazh (Weston, Mass.) recorded 37.3927 points to finish second for Wheaton.
Goldfinger also combined with first year Ava Salamone (Norristown, Pa.) to rack up 172.3596 points to win the duet competition for the Lyons. Wheaton sophomore Sierra Bausemer (Plainville, Mass.) teamed with her first year sister Gabrielle Bausmer (Plainville, Mass.) to score 106.8150 points to finish second in the duet. BU's Audrey Lindsay and Blanca Sanchez Albinana paired up for a third-place score of 71.7500.
Senior Olivia Macdonald (Toronto, Ont.) won the free solo with a score of 172.4838 for the Lyons, while Goldfinger finished second with a score of 152.1788. Jacqueline Joyce registered 99.5313 points to finish third for the Terriers.
Salamone was the top performer in the B Figures, scoring 76.9558 points for Wheaton.
The top five finishers in the C Figures were separated by just over six points. Sophomore Julie Mahoney (Andover, Mass.) won the event with a score of 59.6955 with junior Scout Lowrie (Franklin, N.J.) close behind in second with 58.2276 points. Sierra Bausemer finished third with 56.2115 points to give the Lyons the top three. Joyce finished with 54.1410 points to place fourth for the Terriers, ahead of Wheaton first year El Parks (Tacoma, Wash.) with 53.4808 points.
Gabrielle Bausemer earned first place in the D Figures with a score of 55.8044 points. First year Autumn Vang (Stillwater, Minn.) scored 53.9911 points to place second for the Lyons and Boston University's Shayna Kadish was third with a tally of 46.5200 points.
Sierra Bausemer, Lowrie and Mahoney combined for 136.3808 points to top the field in the trio for Wheaton. BU scored 118.8904 points behind Lindsay, Sofia Luce and Martina Nacach Cowan Ros.
Blazh won the men's free solo with a count of 143.8438 points and combined with Salamone to take the mixed duet with a total of 155.2058 points for the Lyons.
Wheaton won the team event with a score of 142.9358 points to surpass BU's total of 81.5892.
The Lyons return to the pool on March 25-28 when they compete at the National Collegiate Championship hosted by Stanford University in Stanford, Calif.
