Macdonald Places Second in Free Solo at MPSF Championship to Lead Artistic Swimming

STANFORD, Calif. — Senior Olivia Macdonald (Toronto, Ont.) placed second in the collegiate solo free to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) artistic swimming team on day one of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships hosted by Stanford University at Avery Aquatic Center in Stanford, Calif.

Macdonald tallied a score of 178.8138 points in the solo, while University of the Incarnate Word sophomore Marloes Steenbeek (Zaandam, Netherlands) scored 225.6813 points to finish first. 

Junior Renée Goldfinger (Hoboken, N.J.) racked up 167.0488 points to place fourth in the event for the Lyons. Wheaton was the only school to boast two finishers among the top four.

The Lyon duo of Goldfinger and first year Ava Salamone (Norristown, Pa.) combined to score 171.8075 points to finish fourth in the duet. The Stanford sophomore duo of Audrey Kwon (Seattle, Wash.) and Calista Liu (Fullerton, Calif.) topped the field with a count of 241.0250 points. 

Macdonald placed seventh in the collegiate A figures with a score of 73.0424 for Wheaton. Steenbeek claimed first for UIW, followed by five competitors from host Stanford. First year Eldar Blazh (Weston, Mass.) and Goldfinger also scored in the competition for the Lyons. Blazh totaled 49.6589 points to place 14th, while Goldfinger was 15th with a tally of 48.7246 points. 

Salamone finished fifth in the collegiate B figures with a score of 67.0561 for Wheaton. Texas Woman's University first year Nadia Crits (Ayr, Ont.) registered the top score of 76.5077 with three of her teammates filling out the next three spots.

Sophomore Julie Mahoney (Andover, Mass.) scored 60.4006 points to place second in the collegiate C figures for the Lyons and finished just 2.2565 points behind the leader, TWU first year Mathysse Begine (Brussels, Belgium), who registered 62.6571 points. Wheaton sophomore Sierra Bausemer (Plainville, Mass.) finished third with 59.4776 points and junior Scout Lowrie (Franklin, N.J.) was fourth with 54.4551 points. First year El Parks (Tacoma, Wash.) finished fifth for the Lyons with 53.9744 points.

First year Autumn Vang (Stillwater, Minn.) captured the collegiate D figures crown for Wheaton with 54.0933 points and first year Gabrielle Bausemer (Plainville, Mass.) placed second with a score of 50.9378 points.

The Lyons return to Stanford for tomorrow's second day of the MPSF Championship, where they will compete in the trio and the team competitions at 1:10 p.m. EST.
