DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Senior Jaz Vanderhoof (Portland, Maine) led the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's cross country team, placing 56th at this morning's 52nd Annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational at the Robert Dowd Cross Country Course hosted at the UMD campus in Dartmouth, Mass.
The varsity Lyons totaled 626 points for a 20th-place finish out of 36 Division I, II, and III schools in the six-kilometer race. Boston University took the team title with 35 points, with four of its runners capturing top ten places. Senior Nimrit Ahuja (Ellicott City, Md.) of Brown University was the overall winner with a time of 21:03.75.
Vanderhoof clocked in at 22:59.22, with Wheaton sophomore Chloe Vescio (Douglas, Mass.) following with a personal record of 23:45.34 in 95th place. Classmate Abby Wozniak (Blackstone, Mass.) followed close behind in 23:58.43, an over two-minute personal record that earned her 107th place. The three other Lyons in the race all finished one after another, working together as a team. First year Norah McLeod (Arundel, Maine) led the group in 231st place with a 6k debut time of 27:15.32. Right behind her in 232nd place was senior Abby Martin (Keene, N.H.) with a personal record time of 27:20.38 to round out the team scoring for Wheaton. Sophomore Maggie Cizmar (Plymouth, Mass.) was at her heels in 233rd place with her debut 6k time of 27:21.06.
The junior varsity Lyons also made a statement with an 18th-place finish with 492 points.
Wheaton first-year Sophia Woodcock (Warrington, Pa.) led the junior varsity squad in her first 8k race with a time of 27:26.39 for 95th place. Sophomore Niyati Hotha (Littleton, Mass.) crossed through the line in 107th place with 28:04.87. First year Caeli Wagner (Hingham, Mass.) made a statement in her first collegiate 6k, placing 118th in a time of 28:58.32. Junior Anna Butrimas (Berlin, Conn.) clipped over thirty seconds off her previous best for a personal record of 29:26.73 for 125th place, leading the way for first-year Kaylin Emerson's (New Boston, N.H.) 6k of 30:31.79, landing in 141st place. Junior Annabelle Sanders (Miami, Fla.) finished 150th with a mark of 31:22.71.
The Lyons return to the path on Saturday, October 4, in Keene, N.H., at the Keene State Invitational.
