SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Senior Jaz Vanderhoof (Portland, Maine) placed 224th to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's cross country team this morning at the NCAA Division III Championship hosted at Milliken Research Park in Spartanburg, S.C.
Vanderhoof turned in a time of 23:45.8 for an average mile mark of 6:23.
The senior is the first Lyon to compete in the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship since Megan Brousseau '08 in 2006.
Vanderhoof was in 215th place following the first kilometer with a time of 3:31.6. She dropped six spots after posting a time of 7:23.9 after two kilometers, but steadily made up the pace, making up seven spots over the next three kilometers with a split of 3:58.4 in the third kilometer and 3:57.2 in the fourth kilometer, before passing five runners after five kilometers with a time of 19:34.5 to slot in at 214th, before finishing 224th after six kilometers.
