MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's lacrosse team placed a school-record 15 members on the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Academic All-Conference team, it was announced by the league.
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2024 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at their institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
Talia Banglmaier (Kennebunk, Maine), Kelsey Bennett (Harrison, Maine), Jessica Chamberlin (Bow, N.H.), Megan Cuddy (Natick, Mass.), Makenna Gilman (Middletown, R.I.), Sophie Gromala (Killingworth, Conn.), Katie Hallee (Norway, Maine), Riley Kilbourn (Madison, Conn.), Jenna Langan (Lincoln, R.I.), Katie Prinn (Manchester, Mass.), Georgia Qua (Suffield, Conn.), Kilee Sherry (Gorham, Maine), Gabs Smart (Oakland, Maine), Sara Spielman (Norwalk, Conn.) and Kayleigh York (Scarborough, Maine) were all selected to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team. The Lyons have placed 10 or more student-athletes on the squad in each of the last four years.
Cuddy, Gromala, Sherry and Smart earned the honor for the third straight year, while Chamberlin, Hallee, Kilbourn, Spielman and York all repeat from last year.
Cuddy is a senior Mathematics and Secondary Education double major for Wheaton. A graduate of Natick High School, Cuddy started three of 13 games and netted four goals to go with six ground balls and six draw controls. Gromala is a senior Biology major. The Haddam-Killingworth High School product led the Lyons with 17 assists and added 14 goals for 31 points to rank fifth on the team. Sherry is also a senior Biology major for Wheaton. The Wayneflete Upper School graduate started 10 of 13 matches and was second on the squad with 16 caused turnovers, while netting a pair of goals. Smart is a senior Neuroscience major. The Messalonskee High School product was named Second Team All-Conference after ranking sixth in the league in draw controls (3.94 pg) and ground balls (2.41 pg), while scoring 24 goals and adding 14 assists for the Lyons.
Chamberlin is a junior Political Science major. A graduate of Bow High School, Chamberlin started all but two games and tallied 32 points to rank fourth on the team, including 17 goals and 15 assists. Hallee is a junior Environmental Science major. The Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School graduate was tabbed Second Team All-Conference from her midfield spot and placed second for Wheaton with a career-high 32 ground balls to go with six caused turnovers. Kilbourn is a junior Chemistry and Anthropology double major for the Lyons. A graduate of Daniel Hand High School, Kilbourn netted 19 goals in 17 matches to go with five assists and 23 ground balls. Spielman is a junior Biology major. The Norwalk High School grad was one of four players to start all 17 matches for Wheaton and scored nine goals in addition to five assists, 24 ground balls, five caused turnovers and four draw controls. York is a junior Psychology major. The Scarborough High School graduate started all 16 games she appeared in as a defender and picked up eight ground balls to go with four caused turnovers.
Banglmaier is a senior Biology major. The Kennebunk High School grad got the starting nod in all 17 contests and racked up 31 ground balls, including a conference single-game high of nine at Worcester State University on March 10. Bennett is a sophomore Education major. A graduate of OHCHS, Bennett saw time in five matches as a defender for the Lyons. Gilman is a sophomore Biology and Business double major at Wheaton. The Middletown High School product made the switch from between the pipes to defender and saw action in five contests for the Lyons. Langan is a sophomore Psychology major. The Lincoln Senior High School graduate started five of 12 games in net for Wheaton and led the team with 450:03 minutes played, while posting a team-best 10.67 goals against average. Prinn is a sophomore attacker for the Lyons. The Governor's Academy grad appeared in five matches and scored a goal to go with a ground ball. Qua is a sophomore Sociology major. A graduate of Suffield High School, Qua played in all 17 matches and ranked second on the team with 38 points, including 24 goals and 14 assists, and added 11 ground balls.
Wheaton finished the season with an 8-9 overall record, including 5-5 in league play and fell in the opening round of the NEWMAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
