School-Record 10 from Women's Lacrosse Named to 2025 IWLCA Division III Academic Honor Roll

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – A school-record total of 10 members of the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's lacrosse team were named to the 2025 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division III Academic Honor Roll. In addition, the Lyons were selected as an Honor Squad for the 2024-25 academic year, it was announced by the IWLCA.

Student-athletes from institutions from the NCAA Division I, II and III level as well as NAIA are eligible for the award. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic grade point average of 3.50 or greater.

Seniors Talia Banglmaier (Kennebunk, Maine), Megan Cuddy (Natick, Mass.), Sophie Gromala (Killingworth, Conn.), Kilee Sherry (Gorham, Maine) and Gabs Smart (Oakland, Maine) were all selected to the academic squad for the second consecutive year. Juniors Jessica Chamberlin (Bow, N.H.), Katie Hallee (Norway, Maine), Riley Kilbourn (Madison, Conn.), Sara Spielman (Norwalk, Conn.) and Kayleigh York (Scarborough, Maine) were all honored in their first respective years of eligibility for the award.  

To qualify for the prestigious Honor Squad accolade, a women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.2 or higher team grade point average for the academic year. 

Wheaton posted a 3.53 team GPA for the academic year and has been named following each of the last 14 consecutive seasons that the honor has been bestowed, except for 2020 when no award was presented due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The total of 10 Lyons honored by the IWLCA surpasses last year's standard of eight. Wheaton ranked 26th among Division III schools in number of honorees and was among the top 12.8% for the highest number of recipients in the nation by a Division III institution.

Banglmaier was a Biology major. The Kennebunk High School grad got the starting nod in all 17 contests and racked up 31 ground balls, including a conference single-game high of nine at Worcester State University on March 10. Cuddy was a Mathematics and Secondary Education double major for Wheaton. A graduate of Natick High School, Cuddy started three of 13 games and netted four goals to go with six ground balls and six draw controls. Gromala was a Biology major. The Haddam-Killingworth High School product led the Lyons with 17 assists and added 14 goals for 31 points to rank fifth on the team. Sherry was also a Biology major for Wheaton. The Wayneflete Upper School graduate started 10 of 13 matches and was second on the squad with 16 caused turnovers, while netting a pair of goals. Smart was a Neuroscience major. The Messalonskee High School product was named Second Team All-Conference after ranking sixth in the league in draw controls (3.94 pg) and ground balls (2.41 pg), while scoring 24 goals and adding 14 assists for the Lyons. 

Chamberlin is a Political Science major. A graduate of Bow High School, Chamberlin started all but two games and tallied 32 points to rank fourth on the team, including 17 goals and 15 assists. Hallee is an Environmental Science major. The Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School graduate was tabbed Second Team All-Conference from her midfield spot and placed second for Wheaton with a career-high 32 ground balls to go with six caused turnovers. Kilbourn is a Chemistry and Anthropology double major for the Lyons. A graduate of Daniel Hand High School, Kilbourn netted 19 goals in 17 matches to go with five assists and 23 ground balls. Spielman is a junior Biology major. The Norwalk High School grad was one of four players to start all 17 matches for Wheaton and scored nine goals in addition to five assists, 24 ground balls, five caused turnovers and four draw controls. York is a Psychology major. The Scarborough High School graduate started all 16 games she appeared in as a defender and picked up eight ground balls to go with four caused turnovers. 

Wheaton finished the season with an 8-9 overall record, including 5-5 in league play and fell in the opening round of the NEWMAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
