Qua Nets Career-HIgh Six Goals to Lead Women's Lacrosse over Framingham State, 14-6

NORTON, Mass. — Junior attacker Georgia Qua (Suffield, Conn.) tallied a career-high seven points, including six goals to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's lacrosse team over visiting Framingham State University, 14-6, this afternoon at Nordin Field on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.

The Lyons improve to a perfect 3-0 on the season for their best start since 2020, while the Rams fall to 0-3.

Wheaton overcame a 4-2 deficit in the game and owned a 23-15 shot advantage, while winning 14 of 19 draws. The Lyons were outstanding on free position opportunities with six goals in eight opportunities. Wheaton also took advantage of 14 cards assessed to the visitors, scoring five advantage markers.

Qua tallied all of her goals on nine shots and added a pair of ground balls for the Lyons, while first year attacker Kaydie O'Neil (Sturbridge, Mass.) netted three goals to go with an assist, two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Sophomore midfielder Alexis Antonellis (Lyme, Conn.) scored twice and added an assist, two caused turnovers and a career and game-high seven ground balls. Junior goalie Jenna Langan (Lincoln, R.I.) picked up the win after stopping five of seven shots in 50:08 of relief after senior keeper Katie Geis (Duxbury, Mass.) turned away one of five shots in the opening 9:52 of play.

First year attacker Jenna James (Brewerton, N.Y.) led Framingham State with a trio of goals, while classmate Kate McGovern (Bow, N.H.) scored a goal, assisted on another, picked up two ground balls and caused a turnover. Senior midfielder Kelley DeBellis (New Fairfield, Conn.) contributed with five ground balls and a pair of draw controls. Senior starting goalie Bella DiMare (Wakefield, Mass.) turned back three of 14 shots in the first 41:59 of play, before yielding to sophomore netminder Allie Wurms (Shelton, Conn.), who denied two of five shots in the final 18:01 of play.

Wheaton faced a 4-2 deficit with 5:08 to play in the opening quarter, before ripping off nine unanswered goals, while holding the Rams scoreless over the next 32:07, to take an 11-4 advantage with 6:09 to play in the third period. Qua fueled the scorching run for the Lyons with four goals, while first year midfielder Kendall Maxon (Wells, Maine) tallied her first collegiate goal at the 7:29 mark of the second quarter. 

Sophomore attacker Madeline Bosma (Orange, Conn.) ended the scoring drought for Framingham State with an unassisted marker, coming with 3:01 to play in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 11-5. Wheaton closed out the contest, scoring three of the final four goals, including a pair of advantage goals in the final 57 seconds from Qua and O'Neil.

O'Neil and Qua sandwiched single scores around a James' goal in a span of 1:34 to give the Lyons a 2-1 edge with 9:25 to play in the opening quarter. The Rams reeled off three straight goals, including a player-down marker from sophomore midfielder Emma Kendzulak (Windham, N.H.) with 5:08 remaining in the first quarter to give the visitors a 4-2 margin.

Wheaton returns to play on Saturday, March 7 when it hosts Worcester State University at 12:00 p.m. on Nordin Field, while Framingham State heads to Oneonta, N.Y. to take on Hartwick University for a 1:00 p.m. contest on the same day.
