ATLANTA, Ga. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) 4X100-meter relay placed third with the 12th-fastest time in NCAA Division III to lead the women's track & field team today at the Emory Dooley Elite Meet at Woodruff PE Center Stadium in Atlanta, Ga.
The Lyons tallied 21 points in the meet to place 10th, while host Emory University topped the field with 222.5 points.
Wheaton's 4X100 relay squad of senior Emily Zielinski (Orange, Conn.), junior Wendy Wooden (Sharon, Mass.), first year Inez Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) and junior Michaina Loriston (Boston, Mass.) combined on a time of 47.40 in the race.
Loriston also placed fourth in the 100 meters with a personal-best mark of 11.97 for the third-fastest time in school history in the event and the 11th-fastest in NCAA Division III this season. She qualified for the New England Division III Championship in the event for the Lyons as well. Zielinski also posted a personal-record clip in the race at 12.82 to finish 11th. Wooden was right behind her with a mark of 12.89 to finish 12th. In addition, Zielinski recorded a personal-record time in the 200 meters (26.60) to finish 12th, while sophomore Jessie Dickson (Southbury, Conn.) placed 19th in the race with a time of 27.46. Dickson also finished eighth in the 400 meters behind a time of 1:00.59.
Wheaton junior Anika Wagner (Elmore, Vt.) led the throwers with a heave of 45.03 meters to place third in the hammer throw. She also finished 10th in the shot put with a mark of 9.05 meters and was 15th in the discus throw with a distance of 27.49 meters.
Junior Kristen DiBella (Boston, Mass.) finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.65 to contribute for the Lyons.
Wheaton returns to action on Saturday, April 12 when it heads to Northampton, Mass. to compete in the Carla Coffey Invitational.
