Vaughan Places 27th at NCAA Northeast Regional Championship

MEDFORD, Mass. — First year Norah Vaughan (Hope Hull, Ala.) placed 27th at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship today at the Gantcher Center on the campus of host Tufts University in Medford, Mass.

Vaughan won three of four bouts in the foil to advance past the first round of pool competition, before winning two of six bouts in the second round to finish the day with a 5-5 record. She faced three of the top-10 finishers in the Championship.

The first year began the day with a 5-3 victory over Tufts University senior Shannon Chen (Taipei, Taiwan), before posting a 5-3 decision against Hunter College sophomore Brean Tobin (Cornwall, N.Y.). Vaughn's only defeat in the round came against sophomore Amber Peng (Irvine, Calif.) of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 5-1. The Lyon rebounded for a 5-2 triumph over Long Island University Brooklyn junior Abigail Hunt (Miller Place, N.Y.).

Vaughan opened the second round of pool competition with a 5-3 win over Wellesley College sophomore Lauren Khoo (San Francisco, Calif.), before falling to Saint John's University (N.Y.) junior Antonina Lachman, 5-2. Vaughan was edged by Peng in their rematch, 5-4, before being out-touched by Brown University junior Grace Li, 5-2. Vaughan's final victory of the day came over senior Renee Wu (Palo Alto, Calif.) from New York University, 5-4. Vaughan's first collegiate season came to a close following a 5-0 loss to junior Evelyn Cheng (Lexington, Mass.).
