Women's Fencing Wraps Up 2025 At Syd Fadner Invitational

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's fencing team competed at the Syd Fadner Invitational at host Boston College, taking on the hosting Eagles, Wellesley College and Temple University in an action-packed day. The Lyons came away from the day with three losses.

Sophomores Norah Vaughan (Hope Hull, Ala.) and Valerie Oginsky (Princeton, N.J.) took on Boston College first. Oginsky fell in her three bouts with the Eagles. Vaughan dropped her first two bouts as well, but came back in the third bout to claim victory over junior Taylor Sartori (Rochester, N.Y.), 5-3, to give Wheaton its only point of the match.

Vaughan was the lone representative for Wheaton against Temple, once again competing with the foil. The sophomore went the distance in her first bout, coming away with the victory after downing first year Milena Žunic (Belgrade, Serbia) 5-4. Vaughan was tripped up in her second bout against first year Aurelie Sulter (Austin, Texas), dropping the contest 5-3. Vaughan returned to form in the last bout against Temple, taking victory from first year Anais Wandji (Seattle, Wash.) 5-3 to secure two points for Wheaton.

Wheaton wrapped up the day with both fencers in action against Wellesley College. Vaughan stormed to a sweep with the foil, coming away victorious 5-1, 5-3 and 5-3 to start her day. Oginsky would not fare as well against the rival Blue, dropping her three bouts with the epee 5-2. Wheaton fell to Wellesley 24-3.

The Lyons will rest up for the remainder of the calendar year before they resume competition at the Northeast Conference Weekend at Wellesley on January 24.
