Artistic Swimming Captures 10th Straight East Regional Championship

NORTON, Mass. — Sophomore Olivia Macdonald (Toronto, Ont.) won the "A" Technical Figures and the Solo, while being part of wins in the Duet and Team competitions to help the Wheaton College (Mass.) artistic swimming team capture its 10th straight East Regional Championship today at Balfour Natatorium on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.

The Lyons compiled 97 points, while the Boston University Club team scored 67.5 points.

During the meet, Wheaton celebrated its senior class, paying tribute to Marina Greenwood (Santa Cruz, Calif.) and Hannah Halberg (New York City, N.Y.) in their final competition at Balfour Natatorium.

Macdonald combined with sophomore Renée Goldfinger (Hoboken, N.J.) to score 140.3117 points to place first in the duet competition for Wheaton. Sofia Andrienko and Natalie Lett totaled 72.8000 points to finish second for BU.

Macdonald and Goldfinger placed first and second, respectively, in the solo competition for the Lyons. Macdonald tallied 170.6663 points, while Goldfinger racked up 93.1850 points. Jacqueline Joyce finished third for Boston University with 87.1250 points. 

Macdonald and Goldfinger joined junior Josephine Basco (Painsville, Ohio), first year Sierra Bausemer (Plainville, Mass.), Greenwood, Halberg, first year Julie Mahoney (Andover, Mass.) and Paige Warda (Auburn, Calif.) to combine on a winning score of 155.7946 in the team competition for Wheaton. BU earned 69.7500 points to finish second behind Reese Alesi, Andrienko, Audrey Lindsay, Joyce, Lett, Sofia Luce and Martina Nacach Cowan Ros.

Basco, Halberg and Greenwood combined for a score of 118.6962 points to finish first in the trio for the Lyons, while Bausemer, sophomore Scout Lowrie (Franklin, N.J.) and Warda collaborated for a total of 100.3258 points to place second for Wheaton. Lindsay, Luce and Nacach Cowan Ros tallied a mark of 75.1338 to finish third for BU.

Goldfinger and Halberg placed first and second, respectively, for Wheaton in the "B" technicals. Goldfinger registered a score of 69.9116 ahead of Halberg's tally of 67.5748. 

The Lyons boasted the top five scores in the "C" figures, led by Basco's score of 63.6863. Greenwood finished second with 63.6601, while Warda was third at 59.5588. Mahoney scored 58.5261 points to finish fourth and Lowrie was fifth with a total of 56.6993 points. Joyce finished sixth with a tally of 55.2124 points for Boston University.

Bausemer emerged as the top performer in the "D" technicals for Wheaton with a mark of 56.4251, while Lindsay scored 54.3140 points for Boston University to place second. 

The Lyons will compete again when they travel to Ypsilanti, Mich.) to compete at the National Collegiate Championship, hosted by Eastern Michigan University from March 28-30.
