NORTON, Mass. — Junior Michaina Loriston (Boston, Mass.) placed second in the 60-meter dash with the ninth-fastest time in school history to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's track & field team this evening at the Post-Season Qualifier at Wheaton meet in Beard Field House on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.
Loriston posted a mark of 7.82, which is also the 60th-fastest clip in NCAA Division III in the event this season. Classmate Wendy Wooden (Sharon, Mass.) finished fourth with a season-best time of 7.96, while senior Emily Zielinski (Orange, Conn.) recorded a personal-record mark of 8.10 to place eighth in the race as one of six Lyons to record personal-best efforts in the meet.
Junior Anika Wagner (Elmore, Vt.) led Wheaton's field side with a first-place effort in the weight throw with a mark of 15.85 meters, while adding a runner-up showing in the shot put with a heave of 10.95 meters. First year Maezy Gleason (Scarborough, Maine) placed sixth in the shot put with a personal-record distance of 10.46 meters.
The Lyons won the 4X200-meter relay with a time of 1:49.78 behind sophomore Jessie Dickson (Southbury, Conn.), first years Inez Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) and Mimi Batista (Peabody, Mass.) and sophomore Camille Connors (Woburn, Mass.).
Connors led a strong contingent in the 200 meters for the Lyons with a third-place finish after posting a personal-best time of 27.05. Zielinski was fourth in the race with a time of 27.06 and junior Kate Wickenheisser (Oxford, Conn.) placed eighth with a clip of 27.99.
First year Chloe Vescio (Douglas, Mass.) led the Blue and White's distance runners with a time of 11:04.55 to finish third in the 3000 meters.
Sophomore Maya Thomas (Goffstown, N.H.) finished fifth in the 400 meters for Wheaton, just ahead of senior Morgan Zakrzewski (Taunton, Mass.), who's time of 1:03.84 was good for sixth in the race. Batista was a step behind in seventh place with a mark of 1:03.90.
Sophomore Anella Bolster (Marcellus, N.Y.) finished third with a personal-record leap of 4.93 meters in the long jump for the Lyons, while sophomore Lauren Hinckley (Niantic, Conn.) finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.25 meters.
Junior Abbie Cramer (Farmington, Maine) was Wheaton's top finisher in the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 10.72, while first year Abby Wozniak (Blackstone, Mass.) led the Lyons in the mile with a personal-record time of 5:51.28 to finish 12th. Senior Marguerite Bartlett (Centerbrook, Conn.) clocked in with a season-best mark of 2:42.48 to pace Wheaton in the 800 meters with a 12th-place finish.
The Lyons return to the track on Friday, February 28 when they compete in the New England Division III Indoor Regional Championship at The Track at New Balance in Boston, Mass. at 11:00 a.m.
