Artistic Swimming Finishes Fourth at MPSF Championship

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College (Mass.) artistic swimming team placed fourth at the two-day Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship today at Balfour Natatorium on the campus of host Wheaton in Norton, Mass.

Stanford University placed first in both the duet and the team competitions and finished the weekend meet with 102 points to capture its fourth straight MPSF crown. University of the Incarnate Word placed second behind the Cardinal with 87 points, while Texas Woman's University finished third with 75 points.

Stanford took three of the top five spots in the Collegiate Duet. The combination of first year Megumi Field (Wilmington, Del.) and classmate Dalia Ovadia (Danville, Calif.) tallied 226.2729 points to place first for the Cardinal. The next three places were separated by less than one point. The Stanford pair of senior Lindi Schroeder (Andover, Mass.) and first year Calista Liu (Fullerton, Calif.) tallied 212.5225 points to finish second and edge out the Incarnate Word duo of sophomore Maria Bofill Strub (Calgary, Alberta) and first year Marloes Steenbeek's count of 211.9950 points. UIW claimed fourth place as well with 211.7529 points from sophomore Aliya Perras (Calgary, Alberta) and senior Paige Areizaga (Orlando, Fla.). 

Stanford's sophomore pairing of Elisa Brunel (Austin, Texas) and Ella Rau (Chandler, Ariz.) tallied 199.9050 points to finish fifth, while TWU placed sixth with 144.1979 points posted by junior Candela Fidalgo Garcia (Vigo, Spain) and first year Jennah Hafsi (Rabat, Morocco). Wheaton's sophomore pairing of Renée Goldfinger (Hoboken, N.J.) and Olivia Macdonald (Toronto, Ont.) combined for a score of 139.3313 points to finish seventh.

The Cardinal continued their grip among the top competitors, claiming two of the top three finishes in the Collegiate Team Final. Juniors Miko Begossi (Alamo, Calif.), Ivy Davis (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Yara Elian (Walnut Creek, Calif.) joined first year Audrey Kwon (Seattle, Wash.), Liu, Ovadia and Schroeder for a joint score of 242.2663 to top the field and edge out Incarnate Word by just over four tenths of a point. Incarnate Word registered a mark of 241.8413 behind sophomore Claire Brett (Calgary, Alberta), first year Katelin Echols (Houston, Texas), sophomore Marieve Gagnon (Westmount, Québec), first year Macarena Lagos (Santiago, Chile), Ana Clara Machado, Perras, senior Madeline Phillippe (Hyères Les Palmiers, France) and sophomore Valentina Urriola (Yucatan, Mexico).

Stanford placed third as well with a contingent comprised of Brunel, junior Yujin Chang (San Jose, Calif.), junior Emily Ding (Cupertino, Calif.), sophomore Cambell McMillan (Portland, Ore.), junior Atira O'Neil (Pleasant Hill, Calif.), sophomore Manu Pindi (Flower Mound, Texas), Rau and Haley Chu that scored 231.9438 points. Incarnate Word followed Stanford again in the Team competition finals with a fourth-place effort of 226.6275 points courtesy of Areizaga, junior Elizabeth Battista (Calgary, Alberta), junior Lauren Bell (Calgary, Alberta), Bofill Strub, senior Camryn Hooey (Calgary, Alberta), senior Abby Remmers (Atlantic Beach, Fla.), Steenbeek and senior Mikaelle Gauthier Gatineau, Québec.

Texas Woman's and Wheaton placed fifth and sixth, respectively in the Team Competition. TWU scored 197.3131 points with Fidalgo Garcia, Hafsi, first year Angelina Hamoen (Oranjestad, Aruba), first year Lisa Kizis, first year Eva Lafontan (Toulouse, France), sophomore Maya Schwickert (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and first year Melanie Tromp. Wheaton's group of junior Josephine Basco (Painesville, Ohio), first year Sierra Bausemer (Plainville, Mass.), Goldfinger, senior Marina Greenwood (Santa Cruz, Calif.), senior Hannah Halberg (New York City, N.Y.), Macdonald, first year Julie Mahoney (Andover, Mass.) and first year Paige Warda (Auburn, Calif.) came together to tally 150.9075 points. 

TWU's second showing included first years Anastasia Bell (Birch Island, B.C.) and Kendyl Egert (Calgary, Alberta), senior Maribella Falconer (Houston, Texas), Schwickert, junior Kimberly Poitras (Edmonton, Alb.) and senior Anaya Kashikar (Austin, Texas), who totaled 145.1250 points to place seventh.  

Stanford finished the meet scoring 12 points in the "A" Technicals, 30 in the Trio, 28 in the Duet and 32 in the Team finals, while UIW picked up 10 points in the "A" Techs, 23 in the Trio, 14 in the Solo, 11 in the Duet and 29 in the Team. TWU collected 11 points in the "A" Techs, 10 in the Trio, 22 in the Solo, 10 in the Duet and 22 in the Team. Wheaton scored nine points in the "A" Technicals, 10 in the "B" Technicals, 17 in the Trio, nine in the Solo, Nine in the Duet and 11 in the Team competition.
