MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – The Wheaton College (Mass.) men's 200-yard freestyle relay team of seniors Brian Hixson (Scituate, Mass.), Gavin Cullinan (Cumming, Ga.), first year Marcus Tran (Milton, Mass.) and senior Will Larson (Iowa City, Iowa) (Oakland, Calif.) was named the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Men's Swimming Relay of the Week for the week of October 27 to November 2, it was announced today by the NEWMAC.
The Lyons dominated from start to finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a winning time of 1:25.65 to win by nearly two and a half seconds over Bentley University on October 24. Wheaton owned the fastest split in every leg of the race. Hixson turned in a 50-yard split of 21.37, before Cullinan registered a clip of 21.78. Tran continued to increase the Lyons' margin with a split of 21.02, before Larson's clip of 21.48 sealed the win for Wheaton.
The same quartet also picked up a win in the event against host Bridgewater State University the following week with a mark of 1:26.05. Hixson led off again, before yielding to Tran, Larson and Cullinan. Tran erased the first-leg deficit and the Lyons never looked back, winning the event by more than four seconds.
The Lyons return to the pool on Saturday, November 8 when they travel to Springfield, Mass. for a double-dual meet with host Springfield College and United States Coast Guard Academy at 11:00 a.m.
