MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — Wheaton College (Mass.) women's cross country runner Jaz Vanderhoof (Portland, Maine) earned All-Conference honors it was announced by the NEWMAC.
NEWMAC women's cross country runners earned All-Conference honors upon placing among the first 19 finishers at the conference championship meet on November 1 at the Mark Coogan Cross Country Course at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass.
Vanderhoof becomes the first Lyon to earn All-Conference honors in women's cross country since Katherine Leckbee '22 was 17th in 2019. The senior's finish was the highest for a Wheaton runner since Georgia Crane '16 placed 12th at the 2015 NEWMAC Championship.
Vanderhoof turned in a time of 23:08.3 on the six-kilometer course to place 16th for the Lyons. The senior maintained an average mile time of 6:12.3 in the race.
A graduate of Thornton Academy, Vanderhoof was the top finisher in six races for Wheaton this season. She finished 23rd at the Shawn M. Nassaney Invitational on September 6 with a time of 19:30.2 in the 3.1 mile race hosted by Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. The Psychology major posted a personal-record time of 19:11.4 to finish 71st in the five-kilometer New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athlete Association Championship at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, N.H. on October 10. Vanderhoof opened the season by placing 40th at the Suffolk Short Course Classic with a three-kilometer mark of 12:04.
During her career, Vanderhoof has improved each season at the NEWMAC Championship, placing 25th last season after posting a 41st-place effort in 2023. She finished 43rd in the NEWMAC title race as a rookie in 2022.
Wheaton returns to action on Saturday, November 15 when it competes at the NCAA Division III East Regional Championship in Hopkinton, N.H.
