MEDFORD, Mass. – Junior Calvin Van Dyke (Albuquerque, N.M.) won an opening round match in the singles B draw, before falling in the second round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England Regional Championship co-hosted by Tufts University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology this afternoon in Medford, Mass.
Van Dyke defeated University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) sophomore Rylee Childress (Medway, Mass.), 8-1, in the round of 64 for the Lyons, but fell in the next round of play. Bowdoin College sophomore Jack Pollock (Cincinnati, Ohio) turned in an 8-3 decision to down Van Dyke in the round of 32 at Tufts' Gancher Indoor Center.
Wheaton junior Jaime Galligo (Madrid, Spain) fell in two sets in the round of 64 of the singles A draw to Tufts University senior Andrej Djokic (Brcko, Bosnia and Herzegovina), 6-1, 6-2, at the Vouté Courts at the Tufts Tennis Center.
Lyon junior Jake Murray (San Diego, Calif.) was defeated in the A draw round of 64 by Bowdoin senior Mark Kneiss (Athens, Greece), 6-2, 6-0.
Wheaton first year Landon Wyshner (Winston Salem, N.C.) suffered an 8-3 loss to Amherst College first year Ronald Gualario (Basking Ridge, N.J.) in the round of 64 of the B draw.
Galligo and Wyshner teamed in the doubles A bracket round of 48 for the Lyons, but were taken down by Kneiss and Luke Riezbeek of Bowdoin, 8-3.
Wheaton returns to the courts in February when it hosts Endicott College on Saturday, February 14 at 4:00 p.m.
