Macdonald Leads Artistic Swimming over Stanford, 75-31

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College (Mass.) artistic swimming team defeated visiting Stanford University, 75-31, today at Balfour Natatorium on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.

Sophomore Olivia Macdonald (Toronto, Ont.) led the Lyons with a win in the solo and was one half of Wheaton's win in the duet as well.

Macdonald tallied a final score of 98.3625 for the top score in the solo for the Lyons, including marks of 23.9125 for elements, 25.5500 for choreography and music, 23.7000 for performance and 25.2000 for transitions. 

She paired with Wheaton sophomore Renée Goldfinger (Hoboken, N.J.) to combine  on a winning score of 133.1933 in the duet. Stanford sophomores Ella Rau (Chandler, Ariz.) and Elisa Brunel (Austin, Texas) paired up to tally a mark of 115.2309.

The Lyons also won the trio behind seniors Marina Greenwood (Santa Cruz, Calif.) and Hannah Halberg (New York, N.Y.) and first year Paige Warda (Auburn, Calif.). The trio scored 112.3684 points. Wheaton also placed second in the event with 106.5467 points after the performance from junior Josephine Basco (Painesville, Ohio), first year Sierra Bausemer (Plainville, Mass.) and sophomore Scout Lowrie (Franklin, N.J.).

The Cardinal turned in the top score for the team routine, racking up 190.4388 points, including 89.4888 points for the elements, 37.3500 points for choreography and music, 32.8000 points for performance and 36.9000 points for transitions. The Stanford unit consisted of Brunel, junior Yujin Chang (San Jose, Calif.), Haley Chu, junior Emily Ding (Cupertino, Calif.), sophomore Cambell McMillan (Portland, Ore.), junior Atira O'Neil (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) and sophomore Manu Pindi (Flower Mound, Texas.

Basco, Bausemer, Goldfinger, Greenwood, Halberg, Macdonald and Warda totaled a mark of 145.8980 to finish second in the event for the Lyons. They were awarded 42.8813 points for the elements, 37.3500 for choreography and music, 32.8000 points for performance and 36.9000 for transitions.

Wheaton returns to compete tomorrow when it competes in the BU Invitational in Boston, Mass. at 12:45 p.m.
