MEDFORD, Mass. -- Sophomore Jaime Galligo (Madrid, Spain) advanced to the second round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championship, before bowing out this afternoon for the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's tennis team at Vouté Courts on the campus of host Tufts University in Medford, Mass.
Galligo won his first round singles match for the Lyons in straight sets over Emerson College first year Connor Leung (Mercer Island, Wash.), 6-2, 6-4, before advancing to the Round of 32. Galligo was upended in the second round by top-seeded Tufts University senior Vuk Vuksanovic (Bar, Montenegro), 6-0, 6-0.
Wheaton sophomore Paul Berteaux (Courbevoie, France) was defeated in the opening round by Amherst College senior Kobe Ellenbogen (Ridgewood, N.J.), 6-0, 6-2.
Galligo paired with classmate Jake Murray (San Diego, Calif.) earlier in the day in doubles play for the Lyons, but fell to the Connecticut College duo of sophomore Arjun Premkumar (Bangalore, India) and first year Wolf Sohlberg (Espoo, Finland), 8-4.
Wheaton returns to the court on Thursday, October 10 when it hosts Assumption University at 4:00 p.m. on the Clark Tennis Courts.
