Eight From Wheaton Named to 2024 NEWMAC Spring All-Sportsmanship Team

WESTWOOD, Mass. -- Eight Wheaton College (Mass.) student-athletes have been named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference 2024 Spring All-Sportsmanship Team, it was announced by the NEWMAC. 

The award is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each institution in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of their overall performance or statistics for the season. 

Senior baseball player Tommy Ambrosone (Hopkinton, Mass.), sophomore women's track & field member Abbie Cramer (Farmington, Maine), senior men's tennis player Eli Hanlon (Branford, Conn.), senior men's lacrosse player Alden Leadley (Scarborough, Maine), sophomore men's track & field member Lucas MacKenzie (Saint Albans, Vt.), senior women's tennis player Mareike Mueller (Amesbury, Mass.), senior women's lacrosse player Logan Truluck (Bath, Maine) and senior softball player Allison Weston (West Islip, N.Y.) were all selected to the team for the Lyons. 

Ambrosone started all 38 games and batted .275 (39-142), while tying for the team lead with 38 runs scored. The senior knocked in 17 runs and was second for Wheaton baseball with 23 walks to contribute to a .395 on-base percentage. Cramer was one of the most versatile athletes on the women's track & field squad and established personal-best marks in five events during the season. The sophomore placed fourth at the NEWMAC Championship with a personal-record point total of 2,993  in the heptathlon and was 10th in the javelin at the meet with a personal-record throw of 31.43 meters.

Hanlon put together a 7-9 singles record, including 4-3 in league play. The senior saw time at fourth, fifth and sixth singles and closed out his career with a victory at number six singles at United States Coast Guard Academy on April 20. Leadley saw action in eight contests for men's lacrosse and attempted five shots. The senior added a ground ball for the Lyons.

MacKenzie posted a pair of personal-record times during the season for men's track & field. The sophomore closed out the season by placing 15th with a personal-best mark of 4:40.61 in the 1500 meters at the NEWMAC Championship on April 27. Mueller saw time primarily at number one singles for women's tennis and was 1-1 at second singles. The senior ranked second on the team with nine doubles wins and was 9-5 at the number one doubles spot for Wheaton. 

Truluck started 15 of 18 matches, while ranking third for women's lacrosse with 20 goals and fourth with 29 points, including nine assists. The senior added 17 ground balls and six caused turnovers. Weston posted a career-best .353 (6-17) batting average for Lyons' softball to go with a .389 on-base percentage. The senior started eight of nine games she appeared in and closed out her career by going 4-6 with five runs batted in in a twinbill vs. Emerson College on May 4.
