MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — Eight Wheaton College (Mass.) student-athletes have been named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference 2025 Spring All-Sportsmanship Team, it was announced by the NEWMAC.
The award is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each institution in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of their overall performance or statistics for the season.
Junior softball player Amber Arcand (Millville, Mass.), senior baseball player Tommy Beauregard (Salem, Mass.), sophomore women's outdoor track & field member Lauren Hinckley (Niantic, Conn.), junior men's outdoor track & field member Lucas MacKenzie (Saint Albans, Vt.), sophomore men's tennis player Jake Murray (San Diego, Calif.), junior women's tennis player Alissa Ortiz (El Paso, Texas), senior women's lacrosse player Gabs Smart (Oakland, Maine) and senior men's lacrosse player Ethan Upham (Brunswick, Maine) were all selected to the team for the Lyons.
Arcand appeared in 14 games, while making six starts from the pitching circle for the Lyons. The Blackstone-Millville Regional graduate posted a 3.96 earned run average and was 4-2 on the year with 14 strikeouts in 40 ? innings pitched. Beauregard started 34 of 35 games he appeared in as the team's primary second baseman. The Salem High School product batted .295 (38-129) with 28 runs scored, nine stolen bases, six doubles and 15 runs batted in.
Hinckley made her mark in the triple jump for Wheaton, placing eighth in the event at the Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza with a leap of 10.96 meters for the seventh-best mark in school history. The East Lyme High School graduate also finished ninth in the event at the NEWMAC Championship on April 26. MacKenzie is selected for the second straight year. A graduate of Bellows Free Academy, MacKenzie was hampered by injury during the outdoor season after competing during the indoor campaign for the Lyons.
Murray saw time at number three, four and five singles for Wheaton. The La Jolla Country Day School graduate posted a 5-9 singles mark, including 4-2 in conference action in addition to owning a 4-12 record in doubles play and was 3-3 in NEWMAC play. Ortiz was the Lyons' number three singles player and recorded a 4-12 singles record to go with a 6-11 doubles mark.
Smart started all 17 matches for Wheaton and was named Second Team All-Conference after leading the team with 67 draw controls, 25 caused turnovers and 41 ground balls. The Messalonskee High School graduate was second on the squad with 38 points and third with 24 goals. Upham saw time in four games for the Lyons on the faceoff, despite being limited with an injury during the campaign.
