AMHERST, Mass. — Senior Matthew Cahill (Brewster, Mass.) and sophomores Jordan Pinnix (Manchester, Conn.) and Kelvin Peterson (Eliot, Maine) all recorded New England Championship qualifying times to lead the Wheaton College men's track & field team at the Amherst Spring Fling Invitational hosted by Amherst College at the Neuhoff-Lumley Track and Hitchcock Field in Amherst, Mass.
Pinnix and Cahill both turned in qualifying times in the 110-meter hurdles. Pinnix posted a personal-record time of 15.39 to place second, while Cahill finished fourth with a qualifying mark of 15.53. Peterson recorded a time of 11.07 to qualify for the New England Championship in the 100 meters. Peterson also placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.44 meters.
Sophomore Noah White (Winchester, Mass.) finished 12th in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:28.69, while the 4X100 relay team of senior Justin Hart (Queens, N.Y.), first year GJ Mualis (Taunton, Mass.), Aris Giatrakos (Stoughton, Mass.) and Peterson combined on a time of 43.58 to place fourth.
Sophomore Joe Moses (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the throwers with a personal-best heave of 12.01 meters to place ninth in the shot put in addition to sixth-place efforts in the discus throw (37.25 meters) and the hammer throw (42.66 meters). First year Griffen Copp (Littleton, Mass.) recorded a throw of 35.04 meters in the discus to finish eighth.
Giatrakos and sophomore William Singer (Los Angeles, Calif.) each posted personal-record times in the 200 meters with respective marks of 24.14 and 24.66. Sophomore Ryan Ventura (South Easton, Mass.) registered a personal-best time of 12.05 in the 100 meters, while senior Graeme Wojtowicz (Hyannis, Mass.) also recorded a personal-best in the 400 meters at 54.54. Junior Matthew Lambert (Hampton, N.H.) recorded a personal-record time of 1:05.91 in the 400-meter hurdles and first year Lucas MacKenzie (Saint Abrams, Vt.) topped his personal best in the 1500 meters with a mark of 4:48.60.
Wheaton returns to action next weekend when it competes at the Carla Coffey Invitational at Smith College in Northampton, Mass.
