CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Senior Kyle Monfredo (Worcester, Mass.) placed fourth in the hammer throw with a school-record throw to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field team on Day One of the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship at the Sherie and Don (1961) Morrison Track at Steinbrenner Stadium in Cambridge, Mass.
Monfredo's heave of, 143' 8", surpassed the previous mark of, 137' 2", set by Andy Ferree in 1999 by more than six feet. The Lyons also excelled in the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries with sophomore Jordan Pinnix (Manchester, Conn.) placing fifth with a time of 15.12 and senior Matthew Cahill (Brewster, Mass.) right behind him at 15.13 to finish sixth. Both competitors qualified for tomorrow's finals. Sophomore Kelvin Peterson (Eliot, Maine) qualified for the long jump with a leap of 6.53 meters to place fifth, while just missing the final cut in the 100 meters with a time of 11.08 to finish ninth for Wheaton.
Sophomore Noah White (Winchester, Mass.) placed 10th in the 10,000 meters with a mark of 33:34.01. Sophomore Joe Moses (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished eighth in the hammer throw with a heave of 37.02 meters, which was behind Monfredo's mark of 43.80 meters. Moses also placed ninth in the javelin throw with a throw of 44.54 meters.
Wheaton returns to Cambridge tomorrow morning for the final day of the NEWMAC Championship.
