HARTFORD, Conn. — Sophomores Jordan Pinnix (Manchester, Conn.) and Kelvin Peterson (Eliot, Maine) joined senior Matthew Cahill (Brewster, Mass.) in posting New England Championship qualifying efforts at the Trinity Invitational in Hartford, Conn.
Pinnix topped his personal-best mark in the 110-meter hurdles again and finished first with a time of 15.13, while Cahill placed fourth in the race with a time of 15.33 to also qualify for the New England Championships. Peterson posted a New England qualifying mark for the second straight week in the long jump with a first-place leap of 6.69 meters. In addition, Peterson placed sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.11.
The Lyon 4X100-meter relay squad of seniors Justin Hart (Queens, N.Y.), Anthony Almas (Marstons Mills, Mass.), first year GJ Mualis (Taunton, Mass.) and Peterson won first place with a season-best time of 42.53.
Almas also finished third in the 200 meters with a mark of 22.63, while senior Matt Daley (Branford, Conn.) finished sixth in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 1:58.94. First year Ricardo Goncalves (Revere, Mass.) placed eighth with a time of 17.28 in the 110-meter hurdles.
Sophomore Joe Moses (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed among the top six in three different events, including third in the hammer throw with a heave of 42.00 meters and sixth in both the shot put with a mark of 11.72 meters and the discus with a throw of 35.52 meters. Senior Kyle Monfredo (Worcester, Mass.) finished eighth in the hammer throw with a distance of 37.73 meters.
Wheaton boasted a number of student-athletes, who registered personal-best efforts during the meet. Senior Graeme Wojtowicz (Hyannis, Mass.) and first year Dante Marciano (Bristol, Conn.) both established personal-best times in the 400 meters for the Lyons. Wojtowicz clocked in at 53.91, while Marciano recorded a mark of 54.55. Sophomore William Singer (Los Angeles, Calif.) also posted a personal-record time of 24.56 in the 200 meters for Wheaton.
The Lyons will compete again in the two-day New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Championship on April 29-30 at host Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass.
