CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Wheaton College (Mass.) men's tennis team boasted a trio of double winners in a 6-3 victory over host Emerson College this afternoon in a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference match at Harvard University's Beren Tennis Center in Cambridge, Mass.

The Lyons improve to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the Lions fall to 0-13 and 0-2.

Wheaton won two of three doubles matches and took four of six in singles play to win the dual match.

Senior Ethan Na (Simsbury, Conn.), sophomore Daniel Bor (Seattle, Wash.) and junior Eli Hanlon (Branford, Conn.) all won in both doubles and singles action for the Lyons. Na and Bor combined for an 8-3 triumph at number two doubles over the Emerson tandem of first year Leo Ishizuka and sophomore Pete Sevikul (Bangkok, Thailand). Hanlon teamed with Wheaton senior Gabriel Fellows (Middletown, R.I.) at third doubles for an identical 8-3 decision over first year Noah Mesaros and Haochen Young.

Bor and Hanlon both battled to 7-5 first set victories at third and fourth singles, respectively, before cruising to a much more comfortable, 6-1 outcome in the second set to earn wins in singles action. Bor downed first year Jeff Yu in his match, while Hanlon defeated Ishizuka in his contest. Na earned a grueling straight set victory at second singles over Sevikul, outlasting his Lion foe in the opening set, 7-5, before holding onto the second set by a count of 6-4.

Senior Chris Register (Portland, Maine) also scored a win in singles play for the Lyons, dropping just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Yang at the six spot.

The Emerson duo of Ryu Watanbe (Osaka, Japan) and Jeff Yu paired up to defeat the Wheaton senior combo of Josh Anschuetz (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and Jack Luyrink (Paxton, Mass.) at number one doubles, 8-5.

Watanbe overcame Anschuetz at first singles, 6-2, 6-1, for the Lions. Junior Ahad Javed (Irving, Texas) won the first set a number five singles for the Lyons over Mesaros, but his Emerson foe came back to win the next two frames, 6-4, 10-7, to pull out the match.

Wheaton returns to the court on Saturday, April 1 when it travels to New London, Conn. to take on United States Coast Guard Academy in NEWMAC play at 1:00 p.m., while the Lions head to Worcester, Mass. to play league opponent Clark University on the same day at 2:00 p.m.
