MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Sophomore Kelvin Peterson (Eliot, Maine) posted an NCAA New England Championship qualifying time in the 200 meters for the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field team at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Peterson posted a personal-record mark of 22.50 for Wheaton. He was one of four Lyons to post personal-best times in the event. Senior Anthony Almas (Marstens Mills, Mass.) finished 18th with a time of 22.69, while sophomore Jordan Pinnix (Manchester, Conn.) clocked in with a personal-record time of 24.12. Sophomore Ryan Ventura (South Easton, Mass.) also recorded a personal-best mark of 24.26.
Wheaton's 4X100 team turned in a time of 44.57 to finish 15th overall behind first year GJ Mualis (Taunton, Mass.), Almas, first year Ricardo Goncalves (Revere, Mass.) and Ventura. The Lyons finished among the top 20 in the 4X400 relay race as well with a 16th-place showing behind sophomore Zac Elmasri (Groton, Mass.), senior Matthew Cahill (Brewster, Mass.), Goncalves and first year Kai Hillier (Hinesburg, Vt.) for a time of 3:39.09.
Junior Matthew Lambert (Hampton, N.H.) scored for Wheaton with a fourth-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase on a personal-record mark of 10:16.61, while first year Kai Hillier (Hinesburg, Vt.) placed fourth in the mile with a time of 4:25.18. First year Nick Lacroix (Bedford, N.H.) finished ninth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:28.38.
Sophomore Joe Moses (Cincinnati, Ohio) established a personal-best mark with a distance of 44.85 meters in the javelin throw to place 18th.
Sophomore Zac Elmasri (Groton, Mass.) led Wheaton in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.78 to place 19th.
